Cages come in all shapes and sizes just like penises so measurement is challenging. Cages typically come with a ring and a tube which connect together to encapsulate the penis. The ring goes behind the testicles and up against the body while the tube covers and encloses the penis. Button that all together with some sort of locking mechanism and you have nearly every modern cock cage.
Measuring the Ring
To measure the ring, take a piece of string and wrap it around your balls and hold it firmly to the top of your penis. It should be tight but not uncomfortably so, remove the string and measure it. Write that number down both in metric and imperial since cages can be sized both ways.
Measuring the Tube/Cage
To measure the tube, measure your flaccid penis after coming out of a warm shower. This typically is going to be slightly larger than your smallest state. You want to measure from the base of the penis where it meets the body to the tip. Again make sure that you write down your measurement in both metric and imperial so you can shop for cages in both sizes.
Buying Your First Cage
Go cheap! Purchase an inexpensive cage with good reviews. Safety is first and foremost so don’t buy anything with reviews that say anything about unfinished or sharp edges. When you purchase a cage, find one that includes multiple base rings if possible. This will allow you to try different sizes and see how they feel.
Cages are a specialty item and they typically ship from China so shipping is going to take from 30 to 60 days. If you unless you are lucky enough to find one at your local sex shop, you might pay more but can take it for a test drive sooner.
Try Your Cage On
Before you do anything, test the lock. Make sure that it opens and closes easily. Once you are comfortable that the lock works properly, try the ring on. You will place your testicles inside the base ring one at a time and lastly, you will slide the penis through the ring. Place the tube over your penis and move it around a bit. If you can’t fit your penis into the tube easily, use a bit of lotion to lubricate yourself. Now grit your teeth and close the lock.
Wear the cage for a few minutes and see what you think. Walk around, stretch, jump up and down and perhaps a jumping jack or two. How does it feel? Do you feel like it is cutting circulation off? Do you feel like it is too loose with too much movement? Do you feel any sharp edges or anything that could cause discomfort? The next part is the fun part. Get a boner.
If you have a partner who is helping you fit yourself, ask him or her to help inspire you to become erect. Blowing on your cage or fingernails on your testicles should get things moving. Now do the same exercises as above. Do you feel any discomfort? Look at your balls, are they colored normally or are are they turning purple or blue? If you see discoloration, the ring may be cutting off circulation. You might need a bigger ring. If either of your balls feels like it might slip out from the base ring, you might need a smaller ring.
Can you pull your penis out the top of the cage from below the base ring? If so, this is a sign that you need a larger cage. If you are able to get your penis out, your balls will remain trapped and it will be a very painful situation. Comfort is one of the best reasons to get a properly fitting cage. Cages won’t ever feel like you aren’t wearing anything but they also are not meant to be torturously painful.
If everything seems to be copasetic, wear your new cage for an hour or two. You might even leave the house to run some errands. Bring your key with you. In fact, I would recommend wearing your cage recreationally for the first week and bringing your key with you whenever you do.
Sleeping in Your Cage
Next try sleeping in your cage, make sure that you urinate before bed. You will most likely wake at some point with a painful erection. Get out of bed, check for discoloration of your balls and if everything is in order, use the restroom and your erection should go away. Did you know that taking a wee will make your morning wood go away? Like magic, it will go back to the less endowed version of itself.
Your Penis Will Adapt
Your penis and balls will change as you become accustomed to wearing the cage. Your balls will adapt to the constant tugging and you may wish to try another one of your rings after a couple days. As you grow accustomed to the feeling of wearing a cage you may even wish to order another. Perhaps this time you will want to try a larger, smaller, pinker, metal-er, silicone-er or maybe you decide that this chastity thing isn’t for you.
Comfort
While common wisdom tells us that a smaller cage will be less comfortable, that is actually not true. A properly fitting cage will do several things. It will align the hole in the cage with the hole in your penis making urination infinitely easier. When you get an erection, it will pull the entire cage and base ring away from the body rather than stretching your scrotum the length of you penis. Stretching your scrotum results in pressure on your testicles which can be very uncomfortable. You may also consider shaving or trimming your pubic hair. In addition to a benefit of aesthetics, hair can get pinched and pulled as you wear the cage through the day and overnight.
Hygiene
Frequent cleaning of your cage is essential. Metal cages with lots of access are easier to clean up. The plastic or covered versions can get an odor before long. Urination is usually the biggest cause of the odor. The key is sitting to urinate and making certain that your urethra has an unobstructed view prior to starting things flowing. If you have a removable showerhead, you can use that to help use water pressure to clean things out. Some cages are very difficult to clean and will need to be removed every few days.

I have a Kink3d N and I love it. I originally started with a cherry keeper and had a good experience with it as well. However, the night time aches happened pretty much every night. It was nothing that a quick get up and use the restroom wouldn’t take care of but still annoying. I don’t have that problem with the Cobra. I am using the second to smallest ring and will eventually try to move to the smallest. I wear it 24/7 no problem and highly recommend it.

Getting something to fit right is a challenge it seems. The penis part is the easiest, I want the tip of the pee hole to be right at the end. Slightly small will work better than slightly large for the penis part.
The ring it tricky, it has to be tight enough to not come off, but lose enough to not cause circulation problems. Also, spacing between the ring and penis part has to be right. I have found if the spacing is fairly close, it makes the ring more difficult to pull off even if the ring is a little big.
When I am locked, I do not want to be able to pull it off without unlocking. Locked males will try when left alone. I have one now that fits pretty good. I could pull it off if I really tried, but it would be painful and no way I could get it back on.
Good points. Another thing I just thought about. We purchased a cage that had an oval ring which seemed like a good idea but on more than one occasion Kevin had an issue with losing a ball – it slipped through the ring because of the way he sat or stretched. Apparently the oval area was just wide enough on the one side. Keep that in mind if you are looking at oval rings.
There are rings that are “ergonomic” and fit very well. It’s not oval but will press against the body comfortably when needed like when wearing tighter clothing.
If the ball pulls through the ring while wearing it, it doesn’t fit right. I have a shorter cage, about an inch long and found the right ring to feel secure and comfortable. I cannot pull a ball between the tube and ring.
I had a sneaky testicle get out of the ring. That was a crisis and required unlocking.

Whatever is comfortable and it needs to match your size. I am a grower, meaning flaccid, I am small. This helps because once in the cage, I can feel comfortable and when aroused in the cage, I’m not in pain. Everyone is different.
I do find that the smaller cages are much more comfortable and better for long term wear.

I thought they were important here but generally yes. Although I reserve the right to contradict myself from time to time. I had many of my blog posts littered with captioned/fetishy pictures and I removed many of those because even though I enjoyed them I thought they might be a turn off to some.
If things do get too colorful on the blogs, I would still prefer that conversations move to the forum for that very reason.
Not to question but he says that the cage we bought is too small and it is sized like you describe. Slightly larger than when he stepped from the shower. During the day is fine but during the night it is uncomfortable and wakes him up. The fit looks like number seven so we should be ok except I don’t hear the end about his discomfort.

I agree. His body will give him erections at night, penises simply do that. If he has a nighttime erection, he can go urinate and it will go away quickly. For the first couple weeks he will probably wake once in the middle of the night but it won’t be long before he will sleep through the night. If he is extremely uncomfortable you can try a larger cage temporarily but I think his body is just fighting it like @Socal63 said.

A month or so ago I was going to get my boyfriend a chastity cage. We’ve gotten one! It’s a metal one, just from eBay. Metal is the best kind for us I think. Definitely my preference, as well as being better for hygienic reasons. Anyway, it seems to fit decently, little discomfort for him aside from the corners of the lock which he said he’ll just file down to be rounded and smooth.
However, when he gets revved up, like just today, the cage does not seem to be doing its job of preventing his erection, and instead just imprisons it and he swelled up much too tightly– his dick started turning purple and feeling cold. Of course, we IMMEDIATELY took it off!! I’m worried that although we looked at this article and figured his cage seems to fit, we must have gone wrong somewhere (possibly very wrong?) because it’s not preventing erections, just turning the cage into a tournequet when he does get turned on.
We’re invested in this as part of our new FLR (especially since he’s been wearing this for only two days and the changes have already been underway at lightning speed!!), and I’m not willing to go back to not having him locked up. However, I also don’t know where we went wrong and am worried about spending hundreds of dollars on cages until we find one that fits correctly.

I would suggest to buy some more different cheap cages.
After trying them he and you should get a better idea of what will work and what not.
Oval or round base ring? padlock or internal lock? cage itself with rings or with bars in the length of the cage? peehole opening small or larger?
Everyone has his own preferences, but to know them you have to figure it out by trying.
Ive had a number of cages. by one the design of the cage was good, but not the lock, by the other was the basering good but other parts not. unfortunatly all those cages, locks and base rings are not just a mix and match thing.
In the end I had my cage made by a etsy compagny (dont know if we may call names). They were fast and measurements were precise.
I ended with a custom 42mm round basering, and a comfortable cagedesign (bars in the length, wich prevents skin rubbing) with a custom lenght and inner diameter, and a smaller peehole to avoid skin peeping out at the end when aroused.
I could never did this without spending the money on the cheaper cages.
The last one fits great, normally I forget I wear it, and at a cost of about 180 dollar ( without all the trial cages…)
I also bought a 2nd slightly different size basering at the same time, so i can change if needed.

I think my bf’s base ring is a good size, but I believe he told me he’s going to try going down to the smallest ring when he feels comfortable. I noticed his current one slips down just the tiniest bit when he gets hard.
If I may ask, what has your experience been with getting hard in your cages? Have you had any trouble as I described in my original comment about getting too hard, swelling up, and turning purple/cold? I know cages are supposed to prevent erections, not just choke them (and cause panicked removal). Also, he’s got some extra padding on his pubic bone, so I’m also wondering if that has been making fitting his cage more difficult because there’s more flesh there? I have no experience in getting cold and purple. Neither with the padding on the pubic bone. I will leave it to others with experience to give you advice on that one.
Getting hard in the cage is uncomfortable, not painfull. With a wider (45mm in my case) basering the erection pulls the basering with the balls down. that can be painfull. with my 42.5 mm basering there is little movement. snug enough.
But when trying differtent models, a 40mm basering was too tight.
After half an hour I had a strainge pain low in my stomach, and the feeling of throwing up.
Perhaps it is safe to look for a cage with a hinged basering until meassurements are right? the one you are using now isn’t safe I think.
Bamberbabe, I had this issue with a ring size that was too small. It’s the same or similar effect when using a cock ring to make yourself harder and longer lasting even after orgasm.
